What To Expect From Laser Hair Removal

What to Expect from Laser Hair Treatments

 How Does It Work?
The technology targets follicles with a focused laser beam that heats the pigment at the root of the hair and damages the bulb in the process, inhibiting its ability to grow hair. Your first step with each session will be to carefully shave the hair you want lasered. A technician will then run a hand-held device over your skin, zapping intense light energy into the shaved follicles with each pass. The skin may be swollen or red after the Laser Hair Removal treatments, but these side effects will not persist.

Is It Actually Permanent?

Most people report 90 percent permanent reduction in hair growth, but fluctuating hormones, medication and aging can make hair grow back. There’s never a guarantee that you’ll enjoy a hair-free life after treatment. It’s important to remember that laser hair removal works better for some people than others. No one knows for sure what the regrowth rates are. Some people notice regrowth after several months or years, while others find they never have to shave again. But keep in mind that laser hair removal is no quick fix. We typically recommend between 6 and 10 sessions, which we will space 4 to 8 weeks apart. Each laser session affects the average amount of hair that’s in an active stage of human hair growth, which is 10 to 15 percent. Laser treatment only reduces the number of unwanted hairs in a given area. It doesn’t get rid of unwanted hairs completely. Even after a package of 6 sessions, you might need to invest in more. After completing treatments you may still see a few hairs and some peach fuzz.

Laser hair removal has more than one benefit

Aside from clearer, smoother skin and permanent hair reduction, laser hair removal also boasts benefits including helping to reduce ingrowing hairs and less irritation of the skin from shaving or waxing. Laser will also pay for itself just on the money saved from not having to wax or buy hair removal products.

You can’t pluck, dye or wax the hair

Plucking, waxing and bleaching impedes the process. If you want to be hairless throughout the process, go the shaving route instead.

Does It Hurt?
While laser hair removal isn’t pain free, many newer lasers are far less painful than devices of the past. The sensation can feel a bit like a rubber band snapping against the skin, and the discomfort is typically momentary, only hurting while the laser is zapping the hairs.

Who is a Good Candidate?
Everything from hair color to skin color can affect how successful your laser hair removal will be. Lasers don’t work on blonde or gray hair; people with light skin and dark hair typically have the best results.  We have the technology to work on all skin types and tones, but darker skin tones may need more treatments.

Laser Hair Removal is a revolutionary technique that can remove hair and has more durable effects than all hair removal procedures available to date.

Things you can do to improve your treatments

  • Always thoroughly shave the area to be lasered. Coming in with any kind of growth will inhibit your results. We never have any need to see where it is growing. We will go over the entire area each time.
  • Keep to your schedule. We have strict guidelines to keep for optimal results. Listen to your technician’s recommendations and follow the schedule they give you.
  • Never wax or pluck. If you do, that hair will not be affected by the laser and you are wasting a treatment.
  • Stay out of the sun. We will turn you away if you have too much color. This includes; spray tans, self-tanners and tanning beds. This is for the safety of your skin.
